Vienna ::: Day 3 ::: Belvedere Palace, Praterstern, and the Danube

Yesterday, I went out to do some site seeing on my own. I haven't really done this since my first day in Berlin, so it took some effort to get myself excited to do this. Site seeing is more fun with other people, but as I rediscovered yesterday afternoon, it's also pretty fun to just do what you want, when you feel like it.

I spent the afternoon retracing some of my steps from the day before on my way to Belvedere Palace, where I walked around the museum. The palace and garden are beautiful, but the only thing really worth seeing in the museum itself are the Gustav Klimt paintings, including his famous The Kiss.

Afterwards, I took the subway up to Praterstern, Vienna's outdoor amusement park. It has many old, frightening looking rides, carnival games, and a large ferris wheel. It was fun taking photos here with my new camera. Had I been with friends, it probably would have also been fun to go on some rides.

Later in the evening, I walked frustratingly slow (not by my choice) around Vienna with a guy from New York that I met at the hostel bar. We attempted to go see the Danube River, which we discovered from some young, drunk teenagers is actually just a canal where junkies like to hang out in the evening. It certainly looked sketchy.

We took the bus back to the hostel, and got in around 2am. The 3 guys I'm sharing a room with go to sleep at like 10pm. Individually, they wake up between 6am and 9am every morning, which pretty much makes them the absolute worst possible roommates for me. Except they don't snore... so there's that.

How creepy is this guy...
