After conquering the train system, subway and pay telephones all in the same day, I was a little disappointed that navigating the streets of Barcelona on foot posed a challenge. To be fair, I was trying to find my hostel in the Gothic District, the most difficult part of town. Of the 3 maps of Barcelona I picked up, none of them attempted to name the streets in this area.
After circling my destination for an hour, I finally found it, only to turn down the room in favor for the 80 euro per night hotel that seemed too expensive for me earlier (which somehow on checkout ended up being only 40 euros per night).
Just outside Hotel El Jardi is a square, or courtyard, where several streets meet and people congregate. Not the best at seeing the bigger picture when entering new territory, all I saw was this teddy bear hanging from a fence when I arrived.
I took it as a threat, and didn't leave my hotel until the next morning.
